Alice Lafferty’s life career has been in education - with the majority spent providing further education for adults. While on a 12-year dementia journey with her husband, she realized the huge need to educate others with what she learned through that journey through early dementia signs to end-of-life. She became certfied as an end-of-life doula to fulfill the support families need of guidance through the overwhelming new world of forms, doctors, durable equipment and grief facing the unknown that encompasses end-of-life and being a caregiving family.

An end-of-life doula fulfills that education and comprehensive support. A doula does not provide medical support, but does provide emotional, physical and spiritual support including coordinating logistics of care.

Alice also ensures that all neccesary state directives are completed, and the client’s desires for their definition of quality of life are discussed and in place. She navigates available community resources, including coordinating doctor appointments.

Facilitating family conversations to make sure all desires are known and documented is one of the important roles of an end-of-life doula.
